Iowa D.A.R.E. Officers,

I want to first start by saying thank you for being willing to put up with us not having a D.A.R.E. Conference this year due to the “Funky Rollercoaster” we are currently living in.  I also want to say thank you to Chief Jeremy Burdess for putting together the 2020 Iowa D.A.R.E. Conference.  

Second, I want to give you guys a little history on who I am your 2020-2021 Iowa DARE Association President.  I am a Lieutenant with the Spencer Police Department, hired back in 2001.  I became a DARE officer in the fall of 2009 and have been teaching the 5th Graders in 8 different classes.  I currently work side by side with Officer Daaron Hansen who is our School Resource Officer.

I am looking forward to bringing the Iowa D.A.R.E. Conference to the Northwest part of the state.  The Iowa D.A.R.E. Conference is scheduled for July 11-13, 2021 in Spencer.  We will be having our Iowa D.A.R.E. Conference at the Clay County Regional Event Center.  The hotels for the Iowa DARE Conference will be the Days Inn and the AmericInn Hotel. When making your reservations for the hotels, please let them know you are with the Iowa D.A.R.E. Association.     Information on all these places will be at the end of the letter.

This year's theme for DARE Iowa will be “DARE to Accept the Challenge”.  The meaning behind this is, I want your students to DARE to accept my challenge of being the best they can be in doing what is right and healthy for them.  The poster contest will continue to be the same as in years past.  All essays need to be sent to Vice President Justin Daale (Le Mars Police Department, jdaale@lemarsiowa.com).  

I, along with the Spencer Police Department and the City of Spencer, are looking forward to everyone joining us in the summer of 2021.  We have a lot to offer in the City of Spencer and we are a short drive from Lake Okoboji.
